Tonic Sol-fa is an Emmy Award winning a cappella ensemble with multi-million selling compositions. The name Tonic sol-fa (or tonic sol-fah) is a technique for teaching sight-singing. It uses a system of musical notation based on ‘movable Do’ whereby every tone is given a name according to its relationship with other tones in the key: (e.g. do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do). 'Do' is chosen to be the tonic of whatever key is being used (thus the terminology ‘moveable Do’). Tonic Sol-fa has established itself as one of the most in-demand vocal groups and one of the most successful independent acts in America. The band began at St. John’s University and includes lead vocalist Shaun Johnson, tenor and vocal percussionist, Greg Bannwarth, and bass, Jared Dove. Together the group reached national prominence with appearances on NBC’s Today Show and in Newsweek magazine. Along the way, they shared the stage with a number of recognizable performers including Jay Leno, Jeff Foxworthy, Lonestar, and were recently part of Garrison Keillor’s 30th Anniversary celebration of A Prairie Home Companion. At present, Tonic Sol-fa is in the studio recording their latest album, entitled “Original,” a new recording in a catalog of numerous award-winning DVD and CD projects highlighting four indelible voices. On sale Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. online and at Activities.
